Bee Mindful!

Bee Experience Debut!

It has been a very warm week with some extremely bright sunshine. Thankfully, we have all been spared any weather-related issues. I do hope the nice weather lasts until the end of term, so that all our planned events can go ahead without issue, namely Sports' Day and the Summer Fayre.

All this nice weather however, does provide the perfect opportunity to inspect our hive of bees and for the first time, we have managed to get small groups of children into the enclosure to participate in a bee workshop. Beekeeping is such a unique experience so the children representing Years 3, 4 and 5 got a real treat. The children learnt about the different layers that make up a hive, held a frame of bees, saw the different types of bees (workers and drones, but no Queen on this visit), learnt about the equipment needed and why inspections are important. We also got to see bee larvae in cells and feel the weight of a frame filled with honey ready for extraction. Well done to all children and staff involved for listening so intently and for following the main rule of beekeeping - staying calm.

The Junior Leadership Team had already played a helpful role at the Infant Sports' Day earlier in the week but on Thursday they headed over to John Grant School as part of their courageous advocacy project in raising the importance of difference and diversity. The children had planned a selection of various sporting activities to carry out with the lovely Lapwing Class from John Grant. Both sets of children enjoyed the occasion, interacted and engaged well together and were a credit to their respective schools.  Well done to all involved in making the trip a success.

Next week, we have our Sports' Day on Monday 7th July starting from 1:00pm. On Wednesday 9th July, we have our Ormesby University Graduation at the village church at 9:30am for those children participating to have their efforts in attending extra-curricular clubs recognised in front of their families. On the same day, we also have our Music Concert for those children involved to show off their musical talents alongside Mrs. White-Joubert from 5:30pm. On Thursday 10th July, those children meeting the eligibility criteria will be heading off to the cinema for the attendance reward trip to watch How to Train Your Dragon. If that was not enough, on Friday 11th July, we have the PTFAs Summer Fayre at Junior school from 3:30pm. It is going to be a very hectic week.

Have a great weekend everyone!
