Beekeeping Workshop

What an experience! Some of our children representing Years 3, 4 and 5 got to take part in a beekeeping workshop with Mr. Young and Miss. McMylor. The children got to participate in a hive inspection, learnt about the different layers that make up a hive, held a frame of bees, saw the different types of bees (workers and drones, but no Queen on this visit), learnt about the equipment needed and why inspections are important. We also got to see bee larvae in cells and feel the weight of a frame filled with honey ready for extraction. Well done to all children and staff involved for listening so intently and for following the main rule of beekeeping - staying calm.
