Wondrous Poems!

National Poetry Day generates a keen interest in wonder-themed poems!

As each week goes by, I never think the following week can top how busy it is, but this week I have been proven wrong again because it has been rammed with differing elements. It has been fantastic to be able to continue going into classes to observe how well the teaching staff are imparting knowledge to the children and seeing how engaged and enthusiastic our children are.

The Years 5 and 6 Girls' Football Team remains at seven children only of mixed ages, so without a greater commitment and despite our rigorous encouragement to participate, we have had to withdraw from the competitive league and tournament. It would not be safe nor sensible to try and continue with so few children only to have to cancel fixtures if a player was absent letting another school down. I have kept the cup fixture open for now, so the seven can at least have one match. It is so disappointing, because we have been running both gender teams side by side since I arrived at the school and only two years ago we were celebrating trophy success with the girls' team.

On the topic of football, the Years 5 and 6 Boys' team had their first outing of the season and in a toughly fought contest lost by the single goal against a very strong team from Hillside Primary. The boys did very well and I hope can build on the positives moving forward into the season.

On Thursday, it was National Poetry Day and many children took up the opportunity to meet my challenge of writing a poem with the theme of Wonder. A spectacular example with some fabulous vocabulary is shown above, but all entries so far are housed on our Gallery page. Please go and take a look at the imagination and creativity.

Next week, we have the Year 6 Height and Weight Checking Team visiting on Tuesday and on the same day we have the second visit of the flu vaccination. On Thursday 8th October, the Juniors will be able to have their individual photos taken, so sharp uniform and tidy hair on show that day please. On Friday, we are commemorating World Mental Health Day, by wearing something yellow to accompany the school uniform (socks, hairband etc) and completing some work where the children can write positive messages to others.

Have a great weekend everyone!
