Planting Craze!

All classes bring a plant to improve the appearance of the school!

Welcome back to the final half-term of the academic year and I am pleased to say that the children seem in good spirits raring to learn even more.

It is that time of year again where children in Year 4 undertake their Multiplication Check. From what I have been told already by Miss. Bambrough, I am confident the children have all done their best and will walk away with some fantastic raw scores out of the maximum of twenty-five. Pupil knowing their times tables off by heart is so vitally important for stronger understanding in Mathematics. I look forward to seeing what the final results will be.

Our Year 5 children had a visit from some pupils and staff from Stalham High School on Tuesday where they gave a little talk about Stalham and involved them in some small activities. On Wednesday, we had a visit from staff and former pupils from Flegg High Academy, who came to talk through the transition to Flegg for our children in Year 6 who are attending there in September.

On Thursday, Mr. Will George came in to work with our Junior Leaders to record the footage for a 360 degree virtual tour of our school. They got to film the key areas of the school and will also record the descriptive narration to explain to viewers what every area portrays. They were all very excited and keen to be involved.

The week has ended with some lovely, fresh colours and gardening improvements, as we had our Federation Planting Day where children come in non-uniform in exchange for a bedding plant, which they can then pop into the ground themselves across the day.

Next week, we have our Diversity week, which has been arranged following our last Ofsted's advice to try and expose our children to greater difference and diversity in ethnicity and religion. This is extremely difficult from our location, but great efforts have been made to achieve this without generating too many problems with costs. On Monday, our Years 3 and 4 classes are going off to the Norwich Mosque for a tour of this place of worship gaining a more detailed insight into the Islamic faith from the Imam (Islamic priest). On Tuesday, we have a practising Buddhist visiting to speak to each class in turn about what Buddhism is and how they dedicate themselves to their religion. Then, on Wednesday, we have been fortunate to secure a member of the Jewish faith, who is visiting to educate each class in turn about a different element of the faith. They have prepared an assembly and some songs for the children to sing, which will be so engaging. All of these events are there to be highly educational; to teach and not preach and to prepare our children for their futures as citizens in a multi-cultural society. What we must do is educate them with the knowledge to make informed decisions about the world around them, free from any prejudicial or stereotypical opinions and extreme views tainted by media or political hype.

Friday will also be the final day for children to collect signatures for their extra-curricular activities inside their Ormesby University passports.

Have a relaxing weekend everyone.
